Wordcrafters in Eugene brings Writers in the Schools (WITS) to Lane County. Placing professional writers in the schools gives area students an opportunity to engage with working artists to learn about writing and the creative process. WITS also gives professional writers an opportunity to share their expertise, inspire students in their reading and writing, and model writing across the disciplines.
WITS programming includes:
- Multi-week writing workshops in middle and high school classrooms
- One-day visits by Pacific Northwest authors
- Mentorships for students to work one-on-one with writers
- Annual Young Writers Fiction Contest
- Public student readings at local bookstores and cafes
- Publication of student work in an annual print anthology
- Mentoring to help students with college and scholarship application essays
